Restaurants Within Walking Distance

One of our favorite things to enjoy is a delicious meal out on the town. In Denver, you certainly have a wide variety of restaurants to satisfy any type of cravings! As the temperatures rise, so does the likelihood that you will be enjoying our tree-lined neighborhood on foot. For those evenings you would rather leave the car keys at home but still go out to dinner, these are some of the delicious restaurants that are easily accessible by foot from your apartment home at The Amaranth!

Shells & Sauce: We love Shells & Sauce at The Amaranth! This restaurant, as you can probably guess, serves authentic Italian-American cuisine. Their happy hour is Tuesday through Sunday from 3-6 PM, and includes $3.95 tapas, $5 flatbreads and $7 small plates. Among the entrees are Filet Tip Stroganoff, Potato Gnocchi and Linguini and Clams. The restaurant also serves brunch, and recently added a rooftop patio, too! To view a full menu, visit their website. Shells & Sauce is located at 2600 E. 12th Avenue.

Pinche Taqueria: Pinche Taqueria serves up Mexican street food with a modern twist. Pinche started out as a food truck, but has grown to a stand-alone restaurant on York Street. Want to walk over one day after work for happy hour? Make sure you go on Mondays, where happy hour lasts the entire evening! Otherwise, you can take advantage of happy hour specials nightly from 3-6 PM. Brunch is served weekends from 11 AM - 3 PM. Taco varieties include everything from mahi mahi to lengua. Fruition: The walk to Fruition, located at 1313 E. 6th Avenue, is a bit further than Shells & Sauce and Pinche Taqueria, but it is well worth it! In fact, Fruition ranked #6 on 5280 Magazine's 2014 Best Restaurant List. From the Grilled Bavette Steak to the Pan Roasted Barramundi, Fruition does not disappoint - don't let the short menu fool you!

Memorial Day Celebrations

As the country pauses on Monday to take time to honor the soldiers whose lives were lost in defense of our country's freedom, we also have the opportunity to enjoy and celebrate the freedom that was gained in battle. From concerts to baseball, there are plenty of chances to enjoy some of America's favorite past times over the long weekend!

Denver Day of Rock
The 7th annual Denver Day of Rock takes place on Saturday, May 23 at the 16th Street pedestrian mall in downtown Denver. Free music will be played from 2:30 through 9:30 PM from performers including Mat Kearny, St. Paul & the Broken Bones, The Kin and more. Stages will be set up along the mall at: Arapahoe & 15th Street, Arapahoe & 17th Street, Curtis Street, Champa Street and Welton Street. The event benefits Amp the Cause (formerly known as Concerts for Kids), which supports more than 50 Denver Metro area nonprofit organizations. It's about a 12-minute drive to the pedestrian mall from The Amaranth.

Deborah Butterfield: The Nature of Wild Horses
The newest exhibit at Denver Botanic Gardens opens on May 23. Butterfield's sculptures embody the spirit of the horse in a modern fashion. The sculptures are throughout the garden's outdoor areas. The gardens will open at 9AM on Memorial Day. As you may know by now, the Denver Botanic Gardens are located just steps away from your apartment home at The Amaranth!

Downtown Denver Art Festival
The 17th annual Downtown Denver Arts Festival will be held Friday, May 22 through Sunday, May 24 at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. Like the Day of Rock, this event is free to attend! Hours for the festival are: Friday 4-8 PM, Saturday 11 AM-8 PM and Sunday. According to the event website, more than 125,000 people are expected to attend. The festival showcases both local and national artists and craft vendors. The Denver Center for Performing Arts is about a 12-minute drive from The Amaranth.

What is on your Memorial Day weekend agenda? Share your plans and ideas with us on The Amaranth's Facebook and Twitter pages! Happy Memorial Day! Thank you to all who serve our country!

Get to Know Cheesman Park

Denver's Cheesman Park is also known as "Capitol Hill's backyard," but it could also be known as The Amaranth's backyard, as it is located just a 5-minute walk away from your home at The Amaranth apartment homes! If you have never visited the park, there are plenty of things you can do to enjoy a visit there - from biking and jogging, to concerts and other city events.

About Cheesman Park
Located directly behind the Denver Botanic Gardens, Cheesman Park offers visitors scenic views, biking and jogging paths and trails, pavillions, picnic areas and more! Probably the biggest "attraction" at Cheesman Park is the Walter Scott Cheesman Pavillion, which was dedicated in 1908. This structure serves as a landmark for concerts, weddings and other gatherings today. Whether you're walking along the tree-lined paths or reading a book on the green areas, Cheeseman Park offers a home away from home for many of Denver's citizens.

When you do go to the park, here are some city guidelines to adhere to so that our parks remain beautiful:
  • No glass containers are permitted
  • Dogs must be on a leash, except in the dog park
  • Please do not feed any wildlife you may encounter
  • 3.2% alcoholic beverages are allowed
  • Restrooms are open May through September
  • Please properly dispose of trash and recycling items
Is the Park Haunted?
One aspect of intrigue regarding Cheesman Park is the belief that it is haunted. Before becoming a park, the land that Cheesman Park sits on was a burial ground called Mount Prospect Cemetery during the 19th century. Today, approximately 2,000 bodies are believed to still be buried in the park. To read a more comprehensive overview of the legends of Cheesman Park, click here.

Now that you know a bit more about the possibilities at Cheesman Park, we hope you'll take advantage of The Amaranth's close proximity and get outdoors to enjoy it! If we hear of any major events taking place at the park, we will pass that information along to you on The Amaranth's Facebook and Twitter pages!

Design the Wall Contest

At The Amaranth apartment homes, we truly value making our residents feel like they are a part of our community - whether it's through trips to the Denver Botanic Gardens, socials or other events. We currently have a unique opportunity for residents to leave a lasting impression on our apartment community with our Design the Wall Contest!

As you may have noticed, we have a blank wall in our first floor common area, which is where your creativity comes into play! Create a design that matches the theme of The Amaranth's other common area decor and reflects the community. Once your design is ready, post it to Facebook with the hashtag #AmaranthArt. Please note, if the hashtag is not used, we won't be able to find your design! Designs must be submitted by 11:59 PM on May 15 (which is a week from tomorrow) to be eligible.

The winner of the Design the Wall Contest will be selected by The Amaranth's building owner, and will receive a $100 VISA gift card. The winning design will be printed onto vinyl wallpaper and placed onto the wall! If there is a winning design, it will be announced on May 18! You could use your prize for a night out on the town, a new pair of shoes, or put it towards decor in your Amaranth apartment!

Are you in need of some inspiration? Visit The Amaranth's website, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest pages, or take a walk around the property to get a feel for our colors and design aesthetic. What comes to mind when you think of life at The Amaranth? Is it our beautiful tree-lined streets? Our friendly community atmosphere? Our bike-friendly neighborhood? No matter what comes to your mind, get creative and have fun with this! After all, it's your community and we want you to be involved in it! We just ask that the design is appropriate for all ages in our community.

We cannot wait to see what you come up with! You are all such talented individuals and we welcome your input!
